Gutters: the system that holds it all together
Gutters don’t get the attention roofs do, but they’re just as critical. A well-formed, properly installed gutter system channels water away from structures, protects foundations, and prevents damage to walls and landscaping.
Poor gutters – warped profiles, misaligned joints, rough edges – create leaks, overflow, and premature failure.
Getting gutters right requires the right tools at every stage: forming clean profiles, cutting precise outlets and connections, shaping curves and radii, and finishing edges for secure downpipe fittings. From fabrication to installation, each step matters.
Gutter forming: flexibility without compromise
Traditional gutter-forming machines are built around fixed dimensions. One size, no resetting.
The LIMA SL-3-W gutter forming machine – also known as the gutter rolling centre – changes that approach entirely. It’s designed to form all standard gutter dimensions from 200 mm up to 500 mm without needing conventional roll-forming setups. You can round diameters from 70 mm to 200 mm, create custom radii, and even form water channels and beads, all on one machine.
The result is a product with the flexibility to handle any radius or profile you need, whether you’re working with steel, aluminium, copper, or other gutter materials. For fabricators and installers who work across different projects with varying specs, it’s a machine that adapts rather than limits
Cutting and shaping: outlets, curves, and connections
Once gutters are formed, they need outlets for downpipes, holes for brackets and fittings, and curves for corners and junctions. Clean cuts matter – rough edges create leaks, and imprecise holes misalign connections.
MPS hole saws handle drilling work across a range of materials: steel, aluminium, PVC pipes, and sandwich materials. With HSS-milled teeth and high concentricity accuracy, they deliver even cuts for outlet holes and downpipe connections. Available in diameters from 30 mm to 127 mm, they cover most standard gutter and piping requirements.
For curved cuts – shaping custom components or working tight radii – Stubai curved tin snips, and Bessey offset cutting snips offer control and precision. Stubai snips feature round, induction-hardened blades designed specifically for circular cuts, available in both left and right curve models. Bessey offset snips are built compact for confined spaces, with double compound leverage that reduces hand effort when cutting stainless steel sheets.
Both tools are built from high-quality steel (C60 carbon steel for Stubai, HRC 61 for Bessey), meaning they hold their edge under repeated use and deliver consistent results across materials.
Edge finishing: bending, deburring, and fitting
The final step in gutter work is finishing – creasing edges for downpipe connections, creating small drip edges, and cleaning edges to ensure watertight fittings.
The MASC Edge Unit 5 mm is a compact tool designed for light folds down to 5 mm, making it ideal for gutter and downpipe work. It handles bending roof gutters, fitting downpipe arches, and forming outlets for wall connection sheets. The adjustable screw settings allow you to tailor the bend according to material thickness.
It’s a simple, durable tool that speeds up the final fitting stage – the point where precision directly impacts whether joints seal properly and water flows as intended.
Getting gutters right from start to finish
Gutter work is a system – forming, cutting, shaping, and finishing all need to work together for installations that perform and last. The right tools at each stage give you control over quality, reduce rework, and speed up production without compromising the final result.
At Fribesco, we bring European gutter fabrication and installation tools to New Zealand and Australia – machines and hand tools built for professionals who expect precision, durability, and results that hold up over time.
